Scent Work/Nose Work Classes

Dogs have an incredible sense of smell and an innate desire to hunt.

RUFF University's Scent Work classes focus on discovering how to tap into your dog's natural instincts and help them thrive. Unleash the power of their incredible sense of smell and see just how amazing their noses can be!

We will teach you to read and follow your dog's mannerisms as they use their nose and hunt drive to locate a targeted odor. Dogs love it, as sniffing is something they were born to do. Scent work is also one of the ultimate enrichment activities for dogs!

What you'll get with RUFF University's Scent Work/Nose Work Classes

• Four 45-minute classes
• Understanding scent work/nose work with dogs
• Introduction to a target odor
• Understanding how to pair reinforcers with the target odor
• Learn how to keep scent work fun for you and your dog
• Adding a verbal and non-vocal search cue and adding an alert behavior
• The target odor concealed within a container (such as a cardboard box or planter, etc.)
• Interior: The target odor concealed on or in an object in an indoor search area.
• Exterior: The target odor concealed on or in an object in an outdoor search area–this requires your dog to locate the scent despite changing air patterns, weather conditions, and natural distractions
• Building the strongest bond with your dog  
• Giving them opportunities to be a dog

*Behavioral fluency with basic cues is required (i.e., sit, down, stay, recall, leave it, and drop it).
